The Honeywell "FW-2-E" is a 2-wire conventional photoelectric smoke detector and base. Photoelectric smoke detectors, also known as optical smoke alarms, use a light beam to detect smoke. They are more effective at detecting smoldering fires, such as a cigarette in a couch, than ionization smoke alarms, which are better at detecting flaming fires.
